Houston, keep your employees safe.
Have you heard of VOCs? If not then your probably don’t know that you’re copier is likely producing them. VOC stands for volatile organic compound and the one that copiers often produce is ozone. While it is good for the atmosphere, ozone is pretty hard on human lungs. Here are some of the effects that WebMD listed for ozone.
- Lung irritation and inflammation
- Coughing, wheezing, and pain when a deep breath is taken
- Permanent lung damage from repeated exposure
- Asthma aggravation, higher chances of pneumonia and bronchitis, and decreased lung capacity
To find out if the copier you have, or are about to buy produces ozone then you need to ask about the cost of the corona wire. If you find out that the corona wire is included then you have a VOC producer on you hands. There are definitely measures that you can take to keep your employees safe but it’s good to know this to start with.
